For five days this September, Inverness will become the squash capital of Scotland as it hosts the country’s flagship squash tournament.
With just ten days to go until the Springfield Scottish Squash Open gets underway, we looked at ten things to look forward to during the event.

1. SCOTTISH PLAYERS TOP THE DRAW
Could 2023 see the first Scottish winner since the competition made its return in 2019? With Georgia Adderley and Rory Stewart top seeds in the women’s and men’s draws respectively, this may be the best hope yet for home success. With five days of squash to be played, it will be tough, but perhaps this could be the year for a home victory.
2. AN INTERNATIONAL FIELD
The Springfield Scottish Squash Open 2023 has attracted a world-class field, with a whopping 15 nationalities represented in the draw. From across the United Kingdom, Europe and the world – the Highland capital will play host to 48 of the world’s best squash players.
3. A BRILLIANT HOST CITY
Inverness is the Highland capital, with a huge number of tourist attractions to see in the city and nearby. Why not combine a weekend trip by seeing some of the most famous sights – from Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle, and Fort George to Culloden Battlefield – the Highlands has something for everyone.
4. GET ON COURT
Alongside the event, two social competitions are being organised which are open to all abilities. With a field ranging from experienced players to newbies, this gives everyone a chance to experience a small part of the professional players routine by getting on court at a PSA event.

5. DELICIOUS-NESS
Inverness is a great city to visit for foodies. Host venue Inverness Tennis and Squash Club are planning tasty food choices throughout the tournament, and that’s just the start of the city’s food journey. Those with a sweet tooth will find award-winning ice cream and local delicacies “Dream Rings” hard to resist.
6. HOME STARS SET TO SHINE
It wouldn’t be the Springfield Scottish Squash Open without some home talent to cheer on. As well as the top seeds there are eight other Scots taking part, and eyeing success in the tournament. The home crowd will be right behind each and every one of them – but particularly local favourite Alasdair Prott.
7. WOMEN’S SQUASH WEEK
A series of events are being planned to mark Women’s Squash Week alongside the Springfield Scottish Squash Open 2023. A range of activities are planned, so keep an eye on Scottish Squash media channels for more information.
8. KIDS ON COURT
Three local primary schools will take part in events linked to the competition, with pupils having the opportunity to get on court for the first time. The Springfield Scottish Squash Open 2021 left a lasting legacy in Inverness, and the 2023 version aims to do the same.
9. THE DAILY MILE
We all know the importance of exercise to keep us fit and healthy. We’re thrilled to have teamed up with The Daily Mile to encourage attendees from a local school to do the Daily Mile at the event on Friday. Look out your walking boots!
10. THE MAIN EVENT
Five-days of top-class squash culminate with the finals, and we’re looking forward to a big crowd taking in the action. With ticket sales for the last matches on course to better sales for the 2021 edition, the venue will be buzzing and right behind those on court.
