Top Squash heads to Inverness

After an eighteen year absence the Scottish Open returned to the professional squash scene in 2019, only for the Covid pandemic to force another pause in 2020.

2021 however sees the return of Scotland’s top event as the Springfield Scottish Squash Open heads to Inverness as Men’s and Women’s $12k PSA Challenger events, each featuring 24 players competing over five days.

In a strong international field, the top men’s seeds are France’s Sebastien Bonmalais, Portugal’s Rui Soares, Czech Jakub Solnicky and Scotland’s own Rory Stewart.

Local interest is boosted by wildcards Fergus Richards, Martin Ross and Alasdair Prott who all have first round matches as they attempt to join the top eight seeds in Round Two.

In the women’s draw the top four places are occupied by English trio Julianne Courtice, Rachael Chadwick and Georgina Kennedy, plus Marie Stephan of France.

Scotlandis represented by Georgia Adderley and Alison Thomson – seeded #5 and #8 – plus Katriona Allen and wildcards Lucy Murchie and Catherine Holland.

Action takes place at Inverness Tennis and Squash Club over five days, culminating in the finals on Sunday 26th September.

Tickets are available for all five days, but if you can’t get there all the matches on Court One will be live streamed right here.
