Women’s Squash Week to be celebrated alongside Springfield Scottish Squash Open

A series of events have been planned around the Springfield Scottish Squash Open 2023 to celebrate Women’s Squash Week 2023.

Scotland’s flagship squash competition will play a key role in empowering and inspiring women and girls through squash.

The Inverness Red Kites women’s squash group will be joined by professional squash player Alison Thomson at their weekly session by a professional female squash player.

New Zealand squash pro Kaitlyn Watts will get on court with a group of young female players to play squash, before a questions and answer session to inspire the youngsters.

With Georgia Adderley leading the field as top seed, hopes for a first Scottish female winner of the Springfield Scottish Squash Open are sure to be high.

Throughout the competition, a women’s match will take pride of place as the last match at the end of each day’s action.

As part of Scottish Squash’s new ‘Together for Squash in Scotland’ strategy, a key aim is to increase the number of women and girls playing squash.

Kirsty Lobban, Scottish Squash Club Development Manager (Women and Girls) said:

“The Springfield Scottish Squash Open brings a huge opportunity to inspire all, but particularly junior girls who look up to players who are competing.
